Dear Coaches and Parents;
Now that the first games have been played I would like to make a few remarks on my observations.
Game Scores:
Games scores were very close indicating that our Skill Assessment Program is working. There were only three games that were a little lop-sided: One in each division. Some adjustments were made and I’m proud of the coaches that followed our Game Lead Guidelines: No fast breaks, Three Pass Format, Move Defense Back to the Top of the Key, No Stealing Off the Dribble, Sub in Players Who Need More Experience and No full court pressure (7/8 Grade Division). These guidelines can be found on our Coaches Corner web page.
Injury Prevention:
There were several injuries that occurred this past week that are typical when playing basketball: sprained ankles being first on the list and jammed fingers. To help prevent an ankle sprain you first need to be wearing basketball high top sneakers. Secondly, and this is the important part, the sneakers must be laced up tight enough to give the ankle the support that the sneaker was design to give.
There’s nothing worse then watching your child, and your player, go down in pain from rolling an ankle that could have been prevented.
Parent & Children Conduct:
I have to say that I was very please with the manner our parents behaved during the games. It’s nice to hear them cheer for a play well made even if it was by the opposing team. We are a community based League and we should all get along in just that way.
However, we still need parents to monitor their children in the hallways and bathrooms during practices and games. It has been witness and reported to me by our custodians that children are bouncing and throwing basketballs and running in the hallways, playing with the front door chime, jumping on and off the lobby desk and going out open windows in JFK. We cannot have this type of behavior going on and expect the school to not respond by taking our facility usage privilege away. So, please lend a hand and monitor your child.
Thank you all,
Michael Fauci
